DutchReview, the go-to English-language publication for internationals living in the Netherlands, covered the record-breaking numbers of Americans applying to move here. In December 2025 alone, nearly 6,700 visa applications came in from US nationals, a ten-year high, and December hadn't even been counted yet.

Jana talked to the NOS for the piece, which DutchReview picked up and ran with. Her explanation for why the Netherlands specifically keeps rising to the top was simple: Americans want English-speaking countries, but Canada, Ireland, and the UK are nearly impossible to get into. The Netherlands is effectively also an English-speaking country, with one of the most accessible visa pathways in Europe for American entrepreneurs.

She also didn't hold back on the why. One word: Trump. Fear of rising authoritarianism, concern for LGBTQ rights, and the straightforward calculation of what it costs to go to an emergency room in the US versus here.

DutchReview is widely read by the expat community already living in the Netherlands, which means this piece reached exactly the kind of people who tell their friends back home where to look.
