When journalist Atossa Araxia Abrahamian started noticing that everyone around her in New York was asking how to leave the United States, she decided to write about it for The New Yorker. And to do that properly, she went on a GTFO tour.

In September 2025, she packed her bags and traveled around the Netherlands with us. She spent the week getting to know the group of Americans on the tour, seeing the country through their eyes, and reporting on what it actually looks and feels like to be in the middle of making this decision. The piece ran in the December 15, 2025 issue.

It was her first piece for The New Yorker, a magazine she described having read since childhood. She wanted to understand a new kind of industry forming around Americans who weren't making backup plans anymore but actually leaving, and GTFO was the company that showed her what that looked like on the ground.

She did also note that Dutch food is not great and that the country is never the right temperature. We agree about the temperature, but we stand by the Netherlands regardless!
