Why Ireland Isn't the Answer for Most Americans: Interview in the Irish Mirror

The Irish Mirror asked Jana about the wave of Americans eyeing Ireland as an escape route. Her answer was honest: for most people, it's not the right move.

Jana explained that English-speaking countries like Ireland, Canada, and the UK are the first places Americans think of when considering emigration. The problem is that those countries don't particularly want Americans, unless you're a nurse or a scientist. Ireland's passive income visa requirement alone puts it out of reach for most people: €100,000 a year for a couple, compared to around €15,000 in Portugal.

On top of that, Ireland has a serious housing crisis and a higher cost of living than most Americans expect.

Jana also spoke about who is actually making the move. A significant portion of GTFO's clients come from vulnerable communities, including LGBTQ people and trans Americans facing increasingly hostile legislation back home.

It's a frank look at the gap between where Americans want to go and where they can actually build a life.
